The latest trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiered during halftime of The Eagles vs Giants monday night game, with pre-sales opening up immediately after. The latest Star Wars movie picks up 30 years after the events that occurred in Return of the Jedi, with new and original cast members leading the new story.
Immediately after its release, popular ticket sale sites like Fandango, Odeon and Picturehouse began to experience technical problems, due to the amount of people attempting to pre-order tickets. With their servers not prepared for such a high volume of traffic, many began experiencing website crashes and error messages, while attempting to finalize their transactions.
This news is obviously exciting for Disney and Lucas Films, as this qualms any fears they had of a dwindling fan base. The Force Awakens is set to break the record for fastest pre-sale and many experts are predicting a 615 million world wide opening for the film. With pre-sales going they way they are, its not hard to believe that the film might even surpass that. With jurassic world racking up over 1 billion dollars over the summer, one can only wonder as to how much The Force Awakens will make, being that it has a much larger fan base and is releasing close to the holidays.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J Abrams, is set to release on December 18, 2015, but many theaters will begin to play the movie at 7 p.m. on December 17, 2015. With select theaters running overnight showtimes until 5 a.m.
